a new career or business
The Funky Pink Poodle offer several strands to the training provided, all of which is bespoke/modified for the individual needs, for example:
- Change of career – offering the option of starting with a taster day and progressing onto a full blown practical course with a City and Guilds qualification inbuilt if so wished.
- Trainees - training for businesses who wish their staff to be trained and successfully qualified and are too busy to do it themselves.
- Training the trainer – designed for groomers who are advancing their career into the realms of teaching.
Tried and tested ideas for successfully running a business are unselfishly passed on. One of the many strengths at the Academy is offering an understanding, learning environment, great for developing the confidence in the most nervous of newcomers, building confidence in people who wish to return to work after raising a family for example – oh yes and left handed people are welcome also!

Angela Mayers, The Groom Room, Chester - Taster day/ Intensive course/City and Guilds
After taking voluntary redundancy I decided on a complete career change, I spent a taster day with Katrina at the Funky Pink Poodle where she put me through my paces! The day is designed to help you decide if grooming is the career for you. I got lots of advice and encouragement that day and decided to train with Katrina. The advice and encouragement went on all through the four weeks training, which is excellent and intensive and prepared me for my new career as owner of the Groom Room in Chester. I'm now grooming up to five dogs a day, all shapes and sizes and I know that Katrina is on the end of the telephone if I need any help. If you are looking for grooming training I strongly recommend you visit the Funky Pink Poodle. The course has been invaluable, if you could bottle it they would be queuing at the door, I really enjoyed the course and feel that I have been given every tool necessary to be a good groomer.
Sharon Jarvis Doolan, All Creatures Great and Small, Ruabon - Change of Career/Intensive course
After twelve years at home raising a family I decided to return to work and retrain as a dog groomer. I enrolled on a four week course at the Funky Pink Poodle, which included the City and Guilds 7750-02 qualification. I found the transition from being at home to working and learning again difficult and tiring. Katrina was extremely good at gradually building my self confidence and grooming skills. I was nervous of techniques that were new to me, but as tuition is one to one, Katrina was always there to give support, encouragement and advise. Katrina taught me so much in four weeks, I gained grooming and dog handling skills, knowledge and confidence in my ability as a dog groomer. Katrina continues to be my mentor and it's reassuring to know she is there to help me if I need her. I really enjoyed the courses and there is the added bonus that the Funky Pink Poodle is set in lovely countryside. I thoroughly recommend the Funky Pink Poodle Academy of Grooming.
Karen Fletcher. Wrexham - Show ring presentation
I attended the Funky Pink Poodle Grooming Academy under the patient instruction of Katrina. Katrina has made not only the everyday grooming easier but also the grooming for the show ring of my miniature and standard poodles so much easier. Katrina guides and advises not only in the techniques of scissoring and clipping but tips on products and how to assess the balance of the dog. It's very friendly and you feel relaxed even if you're not competent or confident in your ability, as I was! I will definitely be treating myself and my dogs to another grooming course to enable me to glean as much of Katrina's advice and experience as possible. Many thanks.
Carol Sindle, The Grooming Pad, Hampshire - Intensive courses five day course
I attended one of the Funky Pink Poodle's intensive courses. I chose a five day course as I had already undertaken a ten week course at my local animal college. I found the Principle Katrina to be very knowledgeable, skilful, well qualified and very patient. The knowledge I gained in the five days was invaluable and essential to successfully running my own business. With a variety of breeds groomed during my course, I received excellent exposure to the breeds most regularly brought into a grooming salon. This included 'breed standard finishes and 'pet' finishes. In my opinion as this course is practical, theoretical and one to one it was highly beneficial to me and would recommend the Academy to any potential student.
Fiona Henderson, Hair off the Dog - Change of Career
Excellent relaxed atmosphere, lots of different breeds to work with. Plenty of time given to take things in and lots of hands on practical work. Katrina gives you confidence in her knowledge but also answers your questions fully without patronising. Learning was made fun but very informative.
Fiona James - Intense dog grooming training
During July of this year, I attended a 4 week intense dog grooming course with Katrina Allegretti. Whilst the course provided me with valuable hands on experience, I was given added value by being trained by Katrina who is a very thorough, highly knowledgeable tutor. The one to one tuition gave a step by step approach to grooming, allowing me to develop my bathing, drying, scissor and clipping techniques under Katrina's close supervision. I also learnt about coat types, equipment, commercial grooming styles, covering X breeds to Pedigrees and animal first aid. All of which are essential to the effective running of a dog grooming business. The course was tough at times, but with determination and concentration and Katrina's ability to teach efficiently to a very high standard, it enabled me to pass my City & Guilds Intermediate Level 2 Certificate and feel confident to succeed in my own business. Although I am still developing my techniques, I am so pleased that I was given the foundation during the course on which to build. During the first week of completing the course, I have already been complimented by a customer on my clipping of a cocker spaniel: Molly, 5 years old, that she has never been groomed so well! Thanks for your help Katrina!
